The CONA Investigation

CONA, or the Conference on National Affairs, is a life changing
experience for those who are given the opportunity to attend. Parker Boggs of
Broadwater Academy and Tommy Dannenfelser of Bishop O’Connell are two students
who were fortunate enough to be selected for and attend CONA. As Parker
explains, students act as delegates to discuss national and international
issues. During MGA, adults watch debate and select ideal candidates to attend
CONA. An ideal candidate has the best work ethic and have natural political
inclinations. Tommy suggests that MGA attendees “show that they’re engaged and
passionate” because “CONA is for those who show their A-game here in Richmond.”
CONA inspires its attendees. Parker had entered the conference
with a desire to further his work in politics. However, he was unsure what
aspects would be suitable for him. During his time at CONA, Parker discovered
that he was more passionate about certain topics than he was about others. This
discovery has led to furthering his career and education in specific political
issues.
Students enjoy many aspects of CONA, particularly the people.
Parker Boggs has claimed “the people are... amazing because they accept who you
are.” He has met many of his close friends at the conference. Tommy also stated
that he made many new friends who are as interested in politics as he is. CONA
is an amazing experience for those who are fortunate enough to go, and although
it takes a lot, it is worth all the effort.
