Different Regions of MGA
Jamie Saunders,
Brunswick Academy
The MGA program reaches out
to a large spectrum of schools, regions, and YMCA organizations.
Spending time with
participants from different areas offers another learning opportunity.
Brunswick Academy sits along the North Carolina border, where Bishop O’Connell
High School and the Arlington YMCA reach the very northern tip of the state,
bordering the District of Columbia.
The regions also spread far
along the east and west parts of Virginia. Schools and YMCA’s travel from great
distances to take advantage of the amazing program. The lifestyles and style of
preparation for MGA are very different, but the learning and fun created
throughout the weekend are the same.
Milan Rooster from Graham
High School (Bluefield, VA) stated “The business here far exceeds home, at home
you cannot just walk to so many different locations.” She is an example of a
student who traveled a great distance to be a part of the program. Henry Boyle
of the Tuckahoe YMCA said that “Downtown Richmond is only about a 20-minute
drive from my house, therefore the city is not much different for me. The only
difference is that where I live, it is more suburban, meaning everything is
spread out. I plan to attend Virginia Commonwealth University in the fall, so
the city already feels like home.”
